10/25/2020 Girls Cross CountryPhotos by Darren TromblayBy Marinza Roosa With seven meets under their belt, the Ogden High School girl’s cross country team has been improving since day one. The team includes senior April McGriff, sophomore Kayden Spencer, freshman Dakota Tromblay, freshman Isabel McCloud, and freshman Marinza Roosa. With the possibility of Covid-19 threatening to cancel their meets, the girls all knew that every race could be their last. Every year, the cross county team bond grows stronger and stronger, but this year it seemed especially powerful because of the pandemic. Each girl trained as if it was their last day training, and this showed in every meet. They ran their conference meet on Thursday, October 15th, at Panorama, and their District meet will be on Thursday, October 22nd, at Audubon. The girls are not currently ranked, but they did place well next to the number seven ranked team during the middle of their season.
State Qualifying The girls cross country team ran one of their best races yet when they traveled to the State Qualifying Meet in Audubon on Friday, October 23rd. The girls knew that the top 10 of the 70 runners would advance to state. For the first time in four years, one of the girls on the team qualified. Kayden Spencer placed 7th and ran a time of 23:24. She will be heading up to Fort Dodge next weekend to run in the state meet. The four other girls on the team also put their heart into the race. Dakota Tromblay came in 29th at 25:50. Isabel McCloud came in 30th at 26:03. Marinza Roosa came in 35th at 26:36. April McGriff came in 45th at 27:32. After the race, Coach Kobliska said, “You guys know that I was nervous going into this race, but now I know never to doubt the power of this team”, referring to the Bulldog cross country team as a whole.
