As the scores show, Ogden has had to experience some tough defeats. For example, the girls’ lost to Glidden-Ralston 42-20, to Woodward-Granger 37-36, and to Greene County 29-33. The team includes senior April McGriff, sophomore Kayden Spencer, freshman Dakota Tromblay, freshman Isabel McCloud, and freshman Marinza Roosa. With the possibility of Covid-19 threatening to cancel their meets, the girls all knew that every race could be their last. Every year, the cross county team bond grows stronger and stronger, but this year it seemed especially powerful because of the pandemic. Each girl trained as if it was their last day training, and this showed in every meet. They ran their conference meet on Thursday, October 15th, at Panorama, and their District meet will be on Thursday, October 22nd, at Audubon. The girls are not currently ranked, but they did place well next to the number seven ranked team during the middle of their season.
State Qualifying The girls cross country team ran one of their best races yet when they traveled to the State Qualifying Meet in Audubon on Friday, October 23rd. The girls knew that the top 10 of the 70 runners would advance to state. For the first time in four years, one of the girls on the team qualified. Kayden Spencer placed 7th and ran a time of 23:24. She will be heading up to Fort Dodge next weekend to run in the state meet. The four other girls on the team also put their heart into the race. Dakota Tromblay came in 29th at 25:50. Isabel McCloud came in 30th at 26:03. Marinza Roosa came in 35th at 26:36. April McGriff came in 45th at 27:32. After the race, Coach Kobliska said, “You guys know that I was nervous going into this race, but now I know never to doubt the power of this team”, referring to the Bulldog cross country team as a whole. 10/25/2020 Boys Cross CountryPhotos by Darren TromblayBy Linden SeegerThe boys cross country team has had exciting seasons this year. They started their season with a meet at Southeast Valley, but they had been training long before. Much of the varsity and JV teams have been getting miles in since June. This hard work appears to have paid off. At Southeast Valley the boys placed 3rd of 12 teams and 2nd of 11 teams at Roland-Story. Later they took the victory at the Ogden and South Central Calhoun meets.
On Friday October 23, the boys ran at The state qualifying meet at Audubon. Parker Trusler described the course perfectly saying “I don’t think there was a flat part of this course.” To add to the difficulty, it was cold and windy. The entire team agreed with the sentiments of Stephen Flynn “That was the hardest course I have ever run.” Though the course was difficult, the Ogden boys placed 2nd of 8 complete teams qualifying them for the state meet on October 31st. The boys also had two individuals qualify for state. Senior Stephen Flynn placed 4th with a time of 18:03 and Sophomore Jordan King paced 6th with a time of 18:41. 7/2/2020 Ogden Baseball updateBy Joelle ConsierAll Baseball photography done by Terri Reutter unless otherwise noted.
